Inspiration comes from interesting places. A friend of mine gave me a book to read called, “Conversations with Jesus”. The author took verses from the bible and imagine Jesus answering different concerns and questions. A kind of a “What would Jesus say?” approach. One of the chapters really struck me. It was entitled “Relax In My Healing.” Anyone who has been in pastoral ministry any length of time knows that things just don’t go the way you thought they would. Ministry can be very messy. I wrote this song back in 2016 when the ministry wasn’t going the way I’d hoped. So the verses I wrote back then were about trusting in the Holy Spirit’s guidance and not relying on what others were saying or trying to live up to other’s expectations.
Recently I’ve rewritten the words to fit my current situation. Over the last four months I’ve watched my body deteriorate to the point where walking anywhere is a challenge. After so many falls you lose confidence in your ability to walk. I rewrote these verses to minister to my own spirit. To remind myself that God is in control, that Jesus loves me more than I can imagine, and I can trust in His healing.
