At my church in Portland, OR, Holladay Park Church of God, I was working on a sermon series I called “Love, Learn, Live.” It was based on the scripture passage Philippians 1:9-11 from the Message Bible. It was my desire to help the message of that passage sink into each heart and soul. That it would be a great challenge for all of us to strive for. The Apostle Paul was praying these words for the church at Philippi and I was praying also for my congregation. “…that your love would flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9-11 The Message Bible).
