Words are powerful. What we say and how we say it can lift someone’s spirit or trash their self-esteem. As I was writing this song I was thinking of the passages in Proverbs when talking about our speech. I’ve loved the tune O Waly Waly most of my life. I loved the melody but really didn’t understand the song itself. It has been put to so many different lyrics. I used the melody of O Waly Waly for the verse and wrote a chorus in a similar style. The graceful melody lent itself to the emotional state of the 2nd verse “why do we fight and quarrel so?” My prayer is that we think about our words before we speak them so that they turn out to be Words of Grace.

Point of interest: I recorded this song in the Men’s bathroom at the Holladay Park Church of God while I was pastor. It was an experiment in recording techniques. I’ve been amazed at how well the recording came off with just using my IPhone.
