]]> I Am the Lord’s I Know https://martysong.com/solo/i-am-the-lords-i-know/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 20:06:35 +0000 https://martysong.com/?p=296 Over the years I’ve experimented with newer forms of chord structures.  My son, Zack, had been interested in an old Rock and Roll song called “Free Bird” by Ronnie Van Zant.  We’re talking an old 70’s tune.  I analyzed it and found I really liked the chord pattern.  At the time I was interested in updated our old Church of God hymns and found this great song by D. Otis Teasley called, “I Am the Lord’s I Know.”  Taking the chord structure from “Free Bird” I created a new melody to fit these words from Teasley.  The message of the lyrics are so encouraging.  Realizing that we are the Lord’s and He is never far from us.  As the Apostle Paul writes in Romans 8:38-39 that nothing can separate us from God’s love.  Take courage from this message that God will always be with you. ]]> I’m Redeemed https://martysong.com/solo/im-redeemed/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 14:40:46 +0000 https://martysong.com/?p=199 After a few months of attending Lynchwood Church of God, Gresham, OR, I was invited to sing in a men’s quartet.  I’ve not been a fan of Gospel Quartet music most of my life and have tried to avoid it whenever possible.  However, after singing with these guys I’ve acquired a taste for it.  In fact I’ve taken several of my own songs and arranged them for the group.  This one was my first.  It’s a testimony describing the redemptive work of Jesus in our lives.  The wonderful change that comes from allowing Christ into our hearts.  I hope this blesses your heart as it has blessed mine.

Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity” (Colossians 3:12-14 NIV).

I discovered this hymn in our hymnal and saw that it had a powerful message for today. However, the melody and style were not for today. So, I reimagined this hymn with a different melody and harmonies.  I don’t mean to commit sacrilege but I added a bridge section that I felt added to the over all message of the hymn.  Listen carefully to the message that D.S. Warner was conveying to the church.
